Today London puts on a brave face again. A year after the bombing, the wound is still sore. On the 7th day of July 2005, a terrible attack threw the population of London into chaos. Or did it?

The reaction and aftermath showed us courageous people and turned an action to demean people into a day remembered for its heroes. Thank you for not becoming paranoid and scared but instead show that violence will take lives but will not benefit any cause. There is no just cause involving such slaughter.

I was genuinely impressed with the dignity and calm kept by everybody in London. Today, we feel closer to one another. While walking to my office this morning, people were looking at each other in a way that says: “it was today”. Nobody smiled or laughed like we are used to witness everyday. The expected effect of the attack was to bring chaos and fear amongst the population. It brought solidarity and composure.

We can feel the reason why we keep sticking together: it makes us stronger. This last sentence seems to be stating the obvious but we must remember it always and never underestimate our tendency to be human after all.

At noon, I will be silent for 2 minutes like millions all over the country. Thinking about what happened that doomed day but moreover about what happened afterwards …
